At Mohini, we are committed to ensuring desi youth in America have the tools and resources to navigate their sexualities in a safe, healthy, and honest way.

By deconstructing the stigmas and myths about our bodies, and by providing easier access to contraceptives and alternative options, we can help make sure our community stays safe, informed, and healthy.

Why South Asians specifically?

Subjects like sex, reproductive health, STDs, sexual safety and even consent are often taboo in South Asian households. Especially in America, between the ages of 16 and 21 this kind of ignorance can be extremely dangerous and have lifelong consequences. A lack of focus on this kind of health in our community as well as the growing desi population in America creates a need for more advocacy and sexual education specific to our community. This is Mohini’s mission.

What is Mohini?

Founded in NJ, Mohini is a nonprofit organization working on launching fundraisers, distribution sites, events, educational panels, workshops and much more to help educate our audience about their sexual health. We especially focus on issues unique to the South Asian community, to hopefully open a dialogue about these taboo subjects and cut off the generational pattern of secrecy when it comes to “the sex talk”.

Why are we called Mohini?

According to Hindu legend, Mohini was the form of Lord Vishnu used to seduce the Asuras and the Devas and obtain the Amrita, or nectar of Immortality. However, she is much more than just an entanchress. An emblem of sexuality and femininity, Mohini represents the empowerment of our sexuality and the ability to reclaim our own bodies in a way that belongs to us.
